There are many fun and exciting events that take place in Kansas City Missouri throughout the year. One of these is Riverfest, which features a variety of musical artists performing on stages scattered along the banks of both sides of the riverfront area. Plenty to do for kids with rides, games and activities all over downtown as well! Another great event held at Union Station annually is Big 12 Basketball Tournament – this one runs from early March through April every year showcasing top-tier talent across multiple college basketball teams who play here during their conference tournament week. Yet another annual favorite comes in late September/early October when The Great Lenexa BBQ Battle rolls into town and brings some seriously tasty food offerings to partygoers near its location at Nerman Park just outside the city.
Kansas City Film Festivals
There are a number of great film festivals held here in Kansas City. One is the GLIFF, or The Greater Kansas City Film Festival which takes place each fall and showcases some amazing independent films from all over the world that attendees can watch for free outdoors at both screen locations: Screenland Theater on 39th Street (and Southwest Trafficway) as well as Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Mainstreet location downtown at 14th and Grand Avenue. Another favorite to attend is “The Big Slick Celebrity Weekend” – this event benefits Children’s Mercy Hospitals with its game-day events every year during early June right around Father’s Day weekend where visitors can get up close and personal with celebrities such as Matthew McConaughey, Ashton Kutcher, Patrick Swayze and many more!
Kansas City Beer Festivals
Another one of the great events held annually in Kansas City is The American Royal World Series of Barbecue. This event showcases some fantastic BBQ offerings from teams all over the country who go head-to-head to see which pitmaster can concoct the best tasting ribs, chicken and pork along with a variety of side dishes as well. Visitors can walk through this huge food fest anytime during its two week duration where they will find plenty to eat including prime rib dinners on Fridays and Saturday nights at certain restaurants throughout Westport such as Jack Stack – another favorite among locals for BBQ each fall when it holds “The Big Pig Jig” contest around Labor Day Weekend.
Kansas Speedway Events
One of the most popular race venues in all over the Midwest is Kansas Speedway which hosts multiple NASCAR events throughout its spring through fall season including one that falls during our nation’s Independence Day holiday weekend every year and draws thousands to visit this fantastic venue for a thrilling day filled with high-speed racing excitement.
Holloween Nights and Big Band Dances
If you love celebrating the fall season with some great live music while enjoying a night full of dancing, be sure to check out The Westin Crown Center Hotel’s “Holloween Nights” event that takes place each October where guests can come dressed in their favorite costume (no scary ones allowed!) for a spectacular evening filled with dinner seating options before heading off to dance away your cares on the ballroom floor.
Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Kauffman Stadium
Another top event held each year in Kansas City is the annual Tree Lighting ceremony that takes place during early November when the world-famous “Kauffman Stadium” lights up with a spectacular show featuring thousands of holiday colored lights to celebrate our nation’s birthday. The entire evening will be filled with music, song and dance as well!
End of the year holiday festivities
The end of the year holidays are always celebrated with some fantastic festive events here in Kansas City. One is The Country Club Plaza’s “Holiday at the Plaza” which takes place each December and features a huge holiday parade, live entertainment by popular local performers and plenty of food for all to enjoy during this fun-filled evening.
Another great event that happens each New Year’s Eve is one called First Night KC which includes dozens upon dozens of exciting activities such as ice skating inside Union Station along with musical performances from talented musical guests – we highly recommend it if you’re looking for something fun to do on New Years Eve!
